ARE YOU TOO OLD OR TOO YOUNG FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS?

TOO OLD OR TOO YOUNG FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS
If you are missing teeth, you may be researching various treatment options.Dental implants are highly lifelike and permanent replacements for missing teeth. They can also protect your overall oral health for decades to come. However, because implants involve surgical placement, you may be unsure about your candidacy for this treatment. Does your age preclude you from getting dental implants? For most adults, age is not a factor in determining candidacy. Rather, oral and physical health concerns are the most important factors. On the other hand, implants are not typically suitable for adolescent patients. Dr. Steve Brown will examine your jawbone and health history to make sure implants are right for you. He can also determine the most appropriate type of implants for your needs. To learn more about dental implants and age requirements, contact our Fort Worth, TX practice today.

ADULTS AND DENTAL IMPLANTS

Adults of all ages may qualify for implants, and seniors are often good candidates for treatment. At The Dental Implant Place, we’ve given implants to patients in their 90s! Nevertheless, though age in and of itself will not prevent you from receiving dental implants, certain health conditions can determine your candidacy. First, you must be able to tolerate the oral surgery required to place dental implants. The procedure is quick and involves minimal side effects. However, if you are at a high risk for infection, have a blood disorder, or a compromised immune system, implants may not be a wise choice.
One of the most common things that can affect your candidacy is jawbone erosion. When you lose one or more teeth, your jawbone will begin to recede almost immediately. This will deplete your bone volume, and you may not have a solid foundation for the implant posts. Bone grafting or a related procedure can build up your jaw, allowing you to receive permanent restorations. Alternatively, Dr. Brown may recommend small diameter dental implants. These restorations require less bone volume. Therefore, you may be able to receive them with no need for bone grafting.

CHILDREN AND DENTAL IMPLANTS

Though tooth loss is more common among adults, children can prematurely lose their baby teeth. They can also lose their permeant teeth to trauma or decay. Children and teens are not typically candidates for implants. To qualify for treatment, patients must have a stable bone structure. Jawbone growth does not typically stop until around age 17 or 18, although this can vary from patient to patient. Dr. Brown can evaluate older teens to see if they might qualify for implants. If they are not a suitable option, your child can receive a bridge or similar restoration until he or she has stopped growing.

WILL PEOPLE KNOW THAT I HAVE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

dental implants are a healthy solution to missing teeth
It’s common knowledge that dental implants are a healthy solution to missing teeth. However, what many people are less sure about is whether or not their new implant-retained teeth will look beautiful and real. While we can’t speak for the smile you would receive with other practices, we at The Dental Implant Place can assure you that with us, your teeth will not only feel natural, but will look natural. The master technicians in our in-house dental laboratory deliver beautiful, life-like new teeth to all of our patients and will also work with you to continually ensure that your new smile will fit your specific oral structure as naturally as possible.

CUSTOMIZE YOUR SMILE

A unique feature of The Dental Implant Place is that we provide all of your procedure in one place, with one doctor and one bill. One of the advantages of this feature is that we are able to give you seamless communication with our team. Throughout every step of your treatment, from your free consultation to the delivery of your final set of teeth, we will listen to your feedback to customize your smile to look and feel the way you want it to, right down to the size, shape, shade, contours, and coloring of your new teeth.

LASER-POINT PRECISION AND “TEST DRIVING”

How are we able to provide such precision and customization to our patients? One of the ways is through the state-of-the-art digital design technology utilized in our in-house lab. Using CAD software (computer assisted design) our technicians are able to digitally design your zirconia crowns and bridges with laser-point precision. We then send these designs to mill temporary sets of teeth that you can “test drive”, so that we can continue to modify the design and fit of your new teeth until we can give your new teeth the exact appearance and fit that you want.
